Positions held: Lecturer and Senior Lecturer, University of York (1964-69), Professor, University of Bradford (1969- 72), Professor, University of Glasgow (1972 to present). Research: Research interests centre on social theory, media, industrial sociology and the sociology of risk. He is currently working on an ESRC-funded project on Media and Expert Construction of Risk in selected Areas, and has worked in the past on externally-funded research on Media Representations on Issues relating to AIDS, Child Sexual Abuse and Food; Issues of War and Peace and Industrial Relations and the Economy.
